eBay Small Images

Find catalog photos under 500 pixels on a side, pad them onto a white canvas, and save them back onto the existing image file.

Script Overview

This screen rebuilds the small-image list from each product's main photo and its gallery photos. A photo is listed when one side is under 500 pixels and both sides meet the slider minimums. Resize pads the short side onto a white 500-pixel canvas and writes that file back to the same catalog path. The list keeps product_image_id (0 for the main photo) and the auto-increment id used by the Small Image Table Spider and the Small Image Resize Spider.

Operator Workflow
Step 1
Set Minimum Size
  • Drag the width and height sliders. They follow the images already in the list.
  • Leave both sliders at the left so a rebuild keeps every photo under 500 pixels.
Step 2
Build the Catalog
  • Choose Build Catalog and wait for the progress bar.
  • The list is replaced with photos that meet the slider minimums.
Step 3
Review the List
  • Sort a column or move to another page. The sliders stay put.
  • Main photos show role Main. Gallery photos show their gallery id.
Step 4
Resize One Image
  • Choose Resize on a row and compare the original with the padded preview.
  • Choose Save resized image to replace the catalog file and drop that row.
Step 5
Resize the Filtered List
  • Choose Resize and Save to pad every row at or above the slider minimums.
  • Saved rows leave the list. Unreadable files stay for a later pass.
Technical Reference & Safeguards
  • Data Read: oc_product, oc_product_image, and oc_product_description with language_id = 1. Display reads pd_small_images.
  • Database Writes: pd_small_images.product_ID, product_image_id, width, height, model, name, and image. id is not written. A save deletes that row by id.
  • Safeguards & Notifications: Catalog build and resize-and-save run in batches of 2,500 with a 3-second retry. The first product batch clears the list in one transaction. Temp files use esi_temp_{session}_{uniqid}_{id}.png under the public image folder. A failed batch rolls back and keeps its place in line.

Photos that are already at least 500 by 500 stay out of the list. Build Catalog replaces the list. Display only changes which stored rows are shown.
